Thunderstorms Make Me Happy.....
I had a revelation last night during the thunderstorm.....Thunderstorms make me happy!
My life is not super exciting, if I am not at work then about 85% of my time is spent at home with my family. With a 9 year old, very active boy and a 8 month old equally active girl, a wonderful but active husband, a dog that redefines the word active, what be a good word for him...lively? No... Peppy? No... energetic? No more like a ticking time bomb of nervous energy and excitement on 20 mega tons of coffee, and ready to explode at the slightest noise. Then there is the poor cat who's only joy in life is to sleep as much as possible and the poor fat thing must share a house with that crazy dog and I am pretty sure he is mad at me for it, because he tries to kill me everyday on my way down the stairs!
Needless to say I stay pretty busy and don't get me wrong I love my family more than words could ever say and enjoy my time with them. However I still can not help but day dream about what kinda life others may lead, going on exotic vacations or a globe trotting adventure meeting interesting people and eating at fabulous restaurants.
I guess that is why I love thunderstorms, they always bring me back home. There is nothing quite as humbling as a great big thunderstorm, the kind where the rain is puring down, the wind is whipping and the thunder sounds like a bowling ball the size of a house is going to crash through your living room. Because at that moment you know there is no better place you could be than at home. Curled up on the couch with the family and my dog under the blanket by my feet shivering and growling softly at the storm, because he still wants it to know who's boss, yet trying not to make it too mad.
Home is where you feel the safest and the most comfortable. Sure an exotic vacation still sounds great, but "there is really no place like home".
Now can I go home?... "Cause it is thundering again"
"He is the happiest be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home"
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

I lived in Alabama for 6 years and one of the things I miss most about it is the thunderstorms at tornadoes. There is something that feels thoroughlly otherworldly about sitting curled up in your bed during a thunderstorm with a book, listening to the rain drumming against the walls and windows.
